LITURGY & MUSIC
If you are interested in joining or participating in one of the programs listed below, please contact the Parish Office at 419-382-5511 for more information.
This committee strives to bring the Parish to a deeper understanding of Christian worship. It will also work toward developing the forms of worship and liturgical ministries needed in the parish. The committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30 AM, September through June.
The choir leads the sung prayer of the church and helps the assembly to pray. The choir sings regularly for the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass, and for special liturgies throughout the church year. The choir season runs from September through May. Members are volunteers who are expected to make a commitment to attend rehearsals on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM and liturgies on a regular basis.
The funeral choir is an ad hoc group, which assembles to lead the congregation in singing and responding at funeral liturgies. There are no scheduled rehearsals. Those who are able to attend come ten minutes before each funeral and sit together near the front of the church. A telephone committee contacts those who wish to participate on a regular basis.
HAND BELL CHOIR
The Hand Bell Choir is another extension of the music ministry. The ringing of bells adds a joyful sound to liturgies and special celebrations.
Cantors are trained singers within the music ministry who lead the responsorial psalm and the sung prayer of the church.
The Greek word “diakonia” describes the main purpose and function of a deacon; it is to be one of service or charity to others. Our parish currently has three deacons ordained to serve the people of the parish community. They baptize and witness weddings, counsel and proclaim the Word of God. They serve the community in many ways, as well as celebrating ceremonies at the altar and assisting the pastor.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST
Eucharistic Ministers are members of the parish who, appointed by the pastor, assist in distribution of Communion during liturgical services and bring the Eucharist to shut-ins.
LECTORS AND DISTRIBUTORS
Lectors proclaim the Word of God as contained in the readings during liturgical services and distributors serve the host and wine to parishioners during Communion.
Our ushers greet and welcome people to our liturgies. They escort people to their seats and collect the Sunday offering. They also direct people for the reception of Holy Communion.
The young members of our parish represent the people of God at the altar by assisting the priest during Mass celebrations, as well as at weddings and funerals. OLPH School and PSR students are trained in the spring of their fifth grade year.
ART & ENVIRONMENT
This group is a subcommittee of the Liturgy Committee. They provide the expertise for the environment and decorations for liturgical seasons and feasts in order to heighten the awareness of the festive, solemn, or penitential nature of these seasons. Meetings are scheduled within the Liturgy Committee and as needed.
These parish volunteers are in charge of keeping the Sanctuary, servers vesting room, choir room, cry room, and the sacristy clean. This is done each Friday morning on a rotating basis.
Eucharistic Adoration is available every First Friday from September through May immediately following Mass until Closing at 4 PM with Evening Prayer and Benediction. Adoration times are available through the day.
Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM during the months of May & October.
Tuesday-Friday at 8:15 AM and on Sundays 20 minutes before the 9:00 AM Mass.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
